چکیده

We investigate a strategy for reconstructing of buildings from multiple (uncalibrated) images. In a similar manner to the Facade approach we first generate a coarse piecewise planar model of the principal scene planes and their delineations, and then use these facets to guide the search for indentations and protrusions such as windows and doors. However, unlike the Facade approach which involves manual selection and alignment of the geometric primitives, the strategy here is fully automatic. There are several points of novelty: first we demonstrate that the use of quite generic models together with particular scene constraints (the availability of several principal directions) is sufficiently powerful to enable successful reconstruction of the targeted scenes. Second, we develop and refine a technique for piecewise planar model fitting involving sweeping polygonal primitives, and assess the performance of this technique. Third, lines at infinity are constructed from image correspondences and used to sweep planes in the principal directions. The strategy is illustrated on several image triplets of College buildings. It is demonstrated that convincing texture mapped models are generated which include the main walls and roofs, together with inset windows and also protruding (dormer) roof windows.

Automated Architecture Reconstruction from Close-range Photogrammetry∗

We describe a method of automated reconstruction of buildings from a set of uncalibrated photographs. The method proceeds in two steps (i) Recovering the camera corresponding to each photograph and a set of sparse scene features using uncalibrated structure from motion techniques developed in the Computer Vision community. (ii) A novel plane-sweep algorithm which progressively constructs a piec...

Solutions to 3D Building Reconstruction from Photographs

The 3D model reconstruction of buildings from uncalibrated photographs allows new useful Computer Graphics and Computer Vision applications. In this paper we survey some solutions proposed in literature and in commerce. The common and different methodology are reported and described. Finally we try to address the 3D reconstruction problem of architectural scenes presenting our solution: BolBol....

Automation in Multi-Image Spherical Photogrammetry for 3D Architectural Reconstructions

The derivation of 3D metric information from spherical images for interactive exploration and realistic 3D modeling is receiving great attention due to their high-resolution content, large field-of-view, lowcost, easiness, rapidity and completeness. We present a methodology for accurate 3D reconstruction from spherical (panoramic) images acquired by mosaicking separated frame images captured wi...

Documentation of Architectural Scenes Using a Hierarchical Method

This paper presents a hierarchical two-level method for reconstruction and detailed documentation of architectural scenes from photographs taken using digital cameras. The first level in the method involves creating a coarse model of the scene. Multiple images of an architectural scene are automatically matched for corresponding points and autocalibration is performed. Subsequently, a projectiv...

Photogrammetric Modeling and Image-based Rendering for Rapid Virtual Environment Creation

For realistic simulations, architecture is one of the most important elements to model and render photorealistically. Current techniques of converting architectural plans or survey data to CAD models are labor intensive, and methods for rendering such models are generally not photorealistic. In this work, we present a new approach for modeling and rendering existing architectural scenes from a ...
